What is a sticker craft in CS2?
A sticker craft is a weapon skin with stickers chosen and placed on purpose. The stickers share a colour, a theme or a pattern, and they suit the skin underneath. Our sticker craft glossary entry has the short definition.
Crafting got a lot more flexible in CS2. Valve's 6 February 2024 update let you place stickers at any position and rotation, raised every weapon to five stickers, and added a zoom for precise placement. The 2 October 2024 update added a scrape level picker when you apply. In July 2026, Valve raised rotation precision to half-degree steps.
So a craft today is less about which slot a sticker sits in and more about what you put together. This guide is about planning and pricing that. For the mechanics of applying and scraping, see how to apply, scrape and remove stickers.
What does a sticker craft cost?
We priced five example crafts at the lowest cash listing across the five cash markets we track, and at the Steam Community Market lowest listing. Each one uses four copies of the same sticker on a Field-Tested skin, with stickers picked to match the skin's colours.
| Craft | Skin | 4 stickers | Total (cash) | Total (Steam) | Stickers' share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AWP | Pit Viper + 4x Boom Trail (Glitter) | $0.72 | $0.55 | $1.27 | $1.84 | 43% |
| AK-47 | Ice Coaled + 4x Froggles (Holo) | $3.80 | $1.76 | $5.56 | $7.70 | 32% |
| AK-47 | Redline + 4x Clown Nose | $24.41 | $0.92 | $25.33 | $37.45 | 4% |
| AK-47 | Redline + 4x Battle Scarred | $24.41 | $12.64 | $37.05 | $55.57 | 34% |
| AK-47 | Redline + 4x Crown (Foil) | $24.41 | $1,368.12 | $1,392.53 | $2,058.25 | 98% |

Three things stand out.
- The stickers decide the budget. The same Redline goes from $25 to almost $1,400 depending on which four stickers you pick.
- Cheap crafts are really cheap. A full green AWP craft costs about $1.30. The four Boom Trail stickers cost about 14 cents each, and over 4,800 copies were listed.
- Steam costs more. Every craft in the table was 38% to 50% more expensive at Steam's lowest listings than at the cheapest cash market. Steam money is wallet credit, though, so if you already have a Steam balance, that is the money you would use.
To build your own price list, look up each sticker on the inventory value checker, which prices stickers at the lowest cash listing.
How do you plan a sticker craft step by step?
- Pick the skin first. The skin sets the colours. Choose a skin you would use with no stickers at all, because the stickers will not save a skin you dislike. The loadout builder and compare skins tool help you price the base.
- Pick a palette. Take one or two colours from the skin and look for stickers in them. Our guide to cheap CS2 stickers by colour lists the best value picks for purple, green, blue, red, gold and white.
- Decide the layout. You have up to five stickers. Four or five copies of one sticker is the classic look. A mix of stickers from one capsule, one team or one colour family works too.
- Preview it on your own weapon. Since October 2024, any sticker listed on the Steam Community Market, in the Armory or in a friend's inventory can be previewed on your own items. Do this before you buy anything. A sticker that looks great on a listing can disappear on a busy skin.
- Choose the scrape level. You can apply a sticker already scraped. A scrape can only go up later, never down, so start clean if you are unsure.
- Buy all the stickers at once. For a 4x or 5x craft, buy every copy before you apply the first one. Cheap stickers have thousands of listings. Rare ones may have a handful, and the last copy is often the most expensive.
- Apply and save the inspect link. Placement is permanent. Once done, keep the inspect link and screenshots, which is what craft buyers ask for.
Which craft styles are worth trying?
There is no right answer, but the common formats have different costs.
- 4x or 5x of one sticker. The easiest to plan and to price: one sticker times four or five. It is also the format collectors look for with rare stickers, as our sticker value guide explains.
- Colour match. Stickers that pick up a colour already in the skin. The Ice Coaled craft above uses blue Froggles holos on a blue and teal rifle.
- One theme. All stickers from one team, one Major, one capsule or one artist. This suits Major fans and is cheap with recent paper team stickers, many of which cost about a cent.
- A single statement sticker. One expensive sticker in a visible spot and nothing else. You pay for one sticker instead of four or five.
If cost matters, the single statement sticker is the cheapest way to put a rare sticker on a gun. A 4x craft costs four times as much and is worth it only if you want the full look.
Should you build a craft or buy one that is already made?
If you want a look and do not care who made it, buying a finished craft is usually cheaper. Most buyers pay only a small share of the sticker cost for a stickered skin, and often nothing for cheap stickers. Our sticker value guide covers why. That means the seller of a craft rarely gets the sticker money back, and you can sometimes buy the look for close to the price of a clean skin.
Build your own when:
- the exact combination does not exist on the market,
- the stickers are cheap enough that the cost does not matter (under a dollar or two for the set), or
- you are making it for yourself and do not plan to sell.
Do not build a craft as an investment unless you already know the stickers are the kind collectors pay for, and you have seen sales of a similar craft.
What happens to your money when you apply the stickers?
Here is the Redline and Battle Scarred craft from the table, worked through.
- You pay $24.41 for the AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested) and 4 x $3.16 = $12.64 for the stickers, $37.05 in total (CSRated price snapshot, 2 October 2026).
- Before you apply them, the four stickers are items you can resell. Each one had over 800 cash listings, so they are easy to sell.
- Once applied, the stickers are no longer items. They are part of the skin, and the only way out is scraping, which deletes them.
- If a buyer later pays only the clean skin price, the $12.64 is gone. On the Steam Market, the skin's lowest listing was $35.89. After Steam's 5% fee and the 10% game fee from the Community Market FAQ, a seller at that price keeps about $31.21 in Steam Wallet funds. The Steam fee calculator does this sum for any price.
The cheap crafts carry almost no risk. Four Clown Nose stickers cost 92 cents. If nobody pays for them, you lost 92 cents. The expensive craft is a different decision: the four Crown (Foil) stickers cost $1,368, and that money is now tied to one skin and one buyer's taste.
When is a Sticker Slab better than applying?
A Sticker Slab is a charm that seals a sticker so you can hang it on a weapon. In Valve's words from the 12 November 2025 notes, the sealed sticker "can be returned to your inventory at any time by cracking open and discarding the slab".
That makes the slab the safer choice for one expensive sticker. Take the Crown (Foil): at $342.03 a copy in our snapshot, applying it means the sticker can only ever be scraped away. Slabbing it lets you show it off and still sell it as a sticker later.
The slab does not replace a craft, though. It hangs as a charm and does not sit on the weapon's surface, so it cannot give you a 4x layout. Use slabs for one valuable sticker you might sell. Apply stickers for a craft you plan to keep.
What are the common sticker craft mistakes?
- Buying before previewing. The in-game preview is free. Buying four stickers you then dislike is not.
- Applying one copy before you own all of them. The last copy of a rare sticker can jump in price once you need it.
- Scraping to "test" a look. Scrape level only goes up. The Steam Market item text also says a sticker can be scraped "until it is removed from the weapon".
- Pricing a craft as skin plus stickers. A buyer will not pay that for most crafts. Price it as the clean skin plus a little, unless you have seen sales of the same craft.
- Expensive stickers on a cheap skin. A rare sticker keeps more of its value on a skin that buyers already want. On a skin nobody buys, the buyer who wants the sticker will buy it unapplied.
- Ignoring Steam vs cash prices. In our snapshot, Steam was the most expensive place to buy every craft in the table. Compare before you buy.
Plan the craft around a skin you love, keep the stickers cheap unless you are sure, and treat any resale value as a bonus.
