How to Apply, Scrape and Remove Stickers in CS2

Short answer

Yes, you can remove stickers in CS2, but removing a sticker destroys it for good. You can apply up to five stickers anywhere on a weapon, pick a scrape level, scrape more later or remove one instantly. Scrape level only ever goes up. To show a sticker and still get it back later, seal it in a Sticker Slab instead.

Can you remove stickers in CS2?

Yes, but you cannot keep them. Once a sticker is on a weapon, you have two ways to get rid of it: scrape it down until it is gone, or remove it instantly. Valve added the instant option in the 2 October 2024 update. Both end the same way. The sticker is deleted and does not return to your inventory.

The Steam Market text on every sticker spells this out. A sticker "can be scraped to look more worn", and you can keep scraping "until it is removed from the weapon" (Steam Community Market).

The one exception is the Sticker Slab, covered below. A slabbed sticker is not applied to the weapon, so you can crack the slab open and get the sticker back.

How do you apply a sticker in CS2?

  1. Preview it first (optional, free). Since October 2024, any sticker on the Steam Community Market, in the Armory or in a friend's Steam inventory can be previewed on your own weapons. Use this before you buy.
  2. Open your inventory in CS2 and find the weapon.
  3. Right-click the weapon and choose Apply Sticker, then pick the sticker from your inventory (GamerTweak shows the menu).
  4. Place it. Set the sticker's position and rotation anywhere on the weapon. Use the zoom for fine placement.
  5. Pick the scrape level. You can apply a sticker fresh or already scraped, using the scrape level selector. If unsure, apply it fresh. You can always scrape later, but never undo a scrape.
  6. Confirm. The sticker leaves your inventory and becomes part of the weapon.

Repeat for up to five stickers per weapon.

How do sticker placement and rotation work?

CS2 does not use fixed sticker slots any more. The 6 February 2024 update changed four things:

  • Stickers "can now be placed at user-specified positions and rotation".
  • "All weapons now support up to five stickers."
  • A zoom was added during placement "for higher precision sticker application".
  • Stickers and name tags can be applied to the Zeus.

In July 2026, Valve raised rotation precision to half-degree steps on the application screen. That matters if you are lining up four stickers in a row and want them straight.

Placement is final. There is no "move sticker" option for a sticker that is already applied. If you get the position wrong, the only fix is to remove the sticker, which destroys it, and apply a new copy.

How do you scrape a sticker in CS2?

Scraping wears a sticker down so it looks used. People do it for the look, or to get a specific wear on a craft.

  1. Open your inventory and find the weapon with the sticker.
  2. Right-click the weapon and choose Scrape Sticker (The Spike walks through the menu).
  3. Pick which sticker to scrape.
  4. Set the new wear level with the slider. Since October 2024 there is a precise wear selector for stickers already on a weapon.
  5. Check the result, then confirm.

Three rules apply.

  • It only goes one way. Valve's notes say applied stickers "can only increase their sticker scrape level". A scraped sticker never becomes fresh again.
  • Wear moves in small steps. Sticker inspect shows wear in 0.1 increments to match scraping.
  • Full scrape means removal. Scraping all the way removes the sticker, and it is gone.

Scraping does not touch the skin's own float. That is a separate number, explained in our float values guide.

How do you remove a sticker completely?

Use the remove option instead of scraping step by step. The 2 October 2024 update added "a way to immediately remove existing stickers from inventory weapons in addition to sticker scraping".

  1. Open your inventory and right-click the weapon.
  2. Choose Scrape Sticker and pick the sticker.
  3. Use the remove option instead of scraping further (GamerTweak shows the Remove sticker button).
  4. Confirm. The sticker is deleted.

Removing makes sense when you bought a skin with stickers you do not want. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change the skin's float. It does not give you the sticker, though, so there is nothing to sell afterwards.

What does scraping or removing a sticker cost you?

The unapplied price of the sticker, every time. Here is what that looked like for a few stickers on 2 October 2026.

StickerLowest cash listingWhat removal destroys
Hydro Geyser$0.033 cents
Clown Nose$0.2323 cents
Battle Scarred$3.16A sticker with 835 cash listings, easy to resell
Crown (Foil)$342.03A sticker you could have sold for hundreds

Across the whole market, the stakes vary hugely. Of the 9,220 stickers with a cash price in our snapshot, 1,650 cost under 10 cents, while 382 cost $100 or more and 44 cost $1,000 or more. Scraping a cheap one is a non-event. Scraping one of the expensive ones destroys real money.

Applying a sticker already turns that money into part of the skin, and buyers usually pay only a share of it back. That is the value side of the story, and our sticker value guide covers how scrape and placement change what a stickered skin sells for. This guide sticks to the mechanics: once you remove a sticker, there is nothing left to value.

Worked example: should you remove the stickers on a skin you bought?

Say you buy an AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested). The cheapest one listed was $24.41 on 2 October 2026 (CSRated price snapshot).

Case 1: four cheap team stickers you do not like. Paper team stickers from the Paris 2023 Major, such as Ninjas in Pyjamas, cost under 1 cent each on cash markets. Removing all four destroys less than 4 cents of value. If you want a clean gun, remove them without a second thought. The removal does not touch the skin's float, so the Redline stays the same Field-Tested skin.

Case 2: one Crown (Foil). That sticker cost $342.03 unapplied, 14 times the price of the skin under it. Removing it throws that away for good. Leave it on, or sell the skin to a buyer who wants the sticker. You cannot move it into a slab either: once applied, it is no longer an item in your inventory.

Case 3: you are not sure. Leave the stickers on until you decide. Removing is instant and final. Keeping them costs nothing.

The rule: before you remove or scrape, look up the unapplied price of the sticker. If you would not throw that amount away, do not touch it.

What is a Sticker Slab and when should you use one?

A Sticker Slab is a charm that holds a sticker. Valve added it in the 12 November 2025 update: "a charm that seals any sticker and can be attached to weapons. The sealed sticker can be returned to your inventory at any time by cracking open and discarding the slab."

So the slab trades one thing for another:

Applied stickerSticker in a Slab
Where it showsOn the weapon's surfaceHanging as a charm
Can you get it back?NoYes, by cracking the slab
Counts toward a craft layoutYesNo
The slab itselfNot usedDiscarded when cracked

Use a slab when the sticker is worth more than you would happily lose, or when you might sell it later. A Crown (Foil) at $342.03 is a good example. Apply a sticker when it is cheap or when you want it as part of a craft, because a slab cannot give you a sticker layout on the gun.

Sealed stickers also trade as their own items, listed as "Sticker Slab | name". Our snapshot had a cash price for 1,301 of them, but only 7 had 20 or more listings, so do not count on selling a slab as quickly as the bare sticker.

How do you check stickers before buying a stickered skin?

When you buy a skin that already has stickers, check them before you pay:

  • Inspect it in game. The inspect view shows each sticker's placement and wear. Our guide on how to inspect CS2 skins shows how.
  • Check the wear. A rare sticker that is heavily scraped is worth much less than a fresh one.
  • Decide what you will keep. If you plan to remove the stickers, pay the clean skin price. You will get nothing back for them.
  • Check the float separately. The float checker reads the skin's float, which stickers do not change.

What are the common sticker mistakes?

  • Scraping to see how it looks. Every scrape is permanent. Use the preview and the apply-time scrape selector instead.
  • Applying an expensive sticker on a whim. If it costs more than you would happily lose, slab it.
  • Assuming removal gives the sticker back. It does not. Neither does a full scrape.
  • Applying one copy of a 4x craft before owning all four. If the last copy gets expensive or runs out, you are stuck with an unfinished craft.
  • Not checking placement before confirming. Use the zoom and half-degree rotation. Once confirmed, the sticker cannot be moved.

Frequently asked questions

Can you remove a sticker in CS2 and get it back?

No. Removing or fully scraping an applied sticker deletes it. Valve's 2 October 2024 update added instant removal, but it does not return the sticker. Only a sticker sealed in a Sticker Slab can go back to your inventory.

Can you unscrape a sticker in CS2?

No. Valve's notes say applied stickers "can only increase their sticker scrape level". There is no way to make a scraped sticker fresh again.

How many stickers can you put on a gun in CS2?

Up to five on every weapon, placed at any position and rotation, since the 6 February 2024 update. The same update added stickers on the Zeus.

Does scraping a sticker change the skin's float?

No. Sticker wear and the skin's float are separate values. Scraping changes only the sticker. Our float values guide covers what float measures.

Can you move a sticker from one gun to another?

Not once it is applied. An applied sticker stays on that weapon until it is scraped off and destroyed. A sticker sealed in a Sticker Slab is different: crack the slab and the sticker returns to your inventory, ready to apply to another weapon.

Do I lose money when I scrape a cheap sticker?

Only the sticker's price, which for many stickers is a few cents. In our 2 October 2026 snapshot, 1,650 stickers cost under 10 cents at the lowest cash listing.
