CS2 Music Kits: Prices and How to Get Them

Short answer

CS2 music kits replace the game's music and add an MVP anthem that everyone in the match hears when you are round MVP. On CSRated's 2 October 2026 prices, the 89 standard kits cost $0.57 to $13.15, with a typical kit near $2. StatTrak versions, which count Competitive MVPs, typically cost about 1.7 times as much.

How much do CS2 music kits cost?

Most music kits are cheap. In our 2 October 2026 snapshot, a typical standard kit cost about $2 and a typical StatTrak kit about $4 at the lowest cash listing.

The spread is narrow next to weapon skins. Of the 89 standard kits, 11 cost under $1, 61 cost $1 to $3, and only 6 cost $5 or more. For comparison, the most expensive CS2 skins run to thousands of dollars.

A high price does not mean a kit sounds better. It means fewer copies for the number of people who want one. Killer Mike, MICHAEL is a good example: it comes from the Deluge box, and the other nine kits in that box all cost under $3 (more on that below).

The newest kit, Starjunk 95, Industrial Sunset Memories, went on sale in the in-game store on 22 September 2026 in standard and StatTrak versions. Ten days later it was already trading at $4.84. If you want a new kit, compare that market price with the price the store shows you before you buy.

Which music kits are the cheapest?

If you just want a different soundtrack, there is no need to spend more than a dollar.

Music kitStandard (cash)Steam
Tree Adams and Ben Bromfield, M.U.D.D. FORCE$0.57$0.80
Tigercub, The Perfume of Decay$0.59$0.81

Juelz, Shooters$0.62$0.88
Tim Huling, Neo Noir$0.63$0.94

Each of these had at least 100 cash listings, so they are easy to buy. On the Steam Market, the same kits cost 20 to 30 cents more.

What does a music kit do in CS2?

A music kit swaps out the game's music for an artist's soundtrack. Valve's item text on the Steam Market says a kit replaces the music for:

  • the main menu,
  • round start and end,
  • the map objective,
  • the ten-second warning,
  • the death camera.

It also includes an MVP anthem. In Valve's words, the kit "is shareable with anyone you are playing with" and the anthem "plays for everyone in the match when you are MVP". That is the main reason people care which kit they own: when you are round MVP, the whole server hears it.

Everyone also has a default kit. When CS2 launched, Valve added a new CS2 default music kit and gave CS:GO players who had started more than a week earlier a commemorative CS:GO Music Kit.

Is a StatTrak music kit worth it?

A StatTrak music kit is the same music with a counter. The Steam item text says it "tracks Official Competitive MVPs". It does not count kills, and it plays the same tracks.

Here is what the counter costs. We paired every kit that trades in both versions, 89 pairs in all.

  • Typical premium: the StatTrak version cost a median 1.72 times the standard one.
  • Smallest premium: Midnight Riders, All I Want for Christmas, at $2.38 standard and $2.63 StatTrak (1.1 times).
  • Largest premium: Sean Murray, A*D*8, at $1.41 standard and $3.81 StatTrak (2.7 times).
  • Never cheaper: in no pair was StatTrak below the standard price.

Seven kits traded only as StatTrak in our snapshot, with no standard version listed. Two of them are among the priciest StatTrak kits: Neck Deep, Life's Not Out To Get You ($13.13) and Blitz Kids, The Good Youth ($11.37). The others, such as Skog, III-Arena ($0.60) and Hundredth, FREE ($0.62), are among the cheapest kits of any kind.

Our take: buy StatTrak if you play Competitive and like seeing the MVP count go up. On a $2 kit, the extra cost is usually a dollar or two. If you mostly play other modes, the counter will not move, so the standard version is the better buy.

How do you get music kits in CS2?

There are four ways.

  1. Buy one in the store. Valve sells new kits in the STORE tab, usually in standard and StatTrak versions. Recent examples are the six NIGHTMODE II kits in May 2026 and Starjunk 95 in September 2026.
  2. Open a music kit box. A box holds a random kit from a set list. Recent boxes are the Deluge box (August 2025) and the Masterminds 2 box (August 2024), both sold in standard and StatTrak versions.
  3. Buy the exact kit on a market. All 89 standard kits and 96 StatTrak kits in the tables above traded on the Steam Market or cash markets.
  4. Get a free promotional kit. A few kits are given away. Owners of Hades on Steam with enough playtime received the Hades kit, and CS:GO veterans got the CS:GO kit. These free kits did not appear on any market in our snapshot, so you cannot buy them.

Are music kit boxes worth opening?

For most people, no. If you want one particular kit, buying that kit costs less than gambling on a box.

Take the Deluge box. It cost $3.78 at the lowest cash listing on 2 October 2026. Valve's announcement lists its ten kits, and here is what each one sold for:

Kit in the Deluge boxCash price
Killer Mike, MICHAEL$13.15
Adam Beyer, Red Room$2.96
PVRIS, Evergreen$2.61

Juelz, Floorspace$1.25
Jonathan Young, Starship Velociraptor$1.01
James and the Cold Gun, Chewing Glass$0.61
Tigercub, The Perfume of Decay$0.59

Nine of the ten kits sold for less than the box. The median kit was worth $1.82, about half the box price. Valve's announcement lists the kits but not the odds of each one.

Every standard box we price shows the same shape: one or two valuable kits and a majority worth less than the box.

Box odds are not published, so there is no way to know how many boxes a top kit would take. If you want Killer Mike, MICHAEL, buying it for $13.15 is a sure thing. Opening Deluge boxes for it is not.

A box is a random draw, so treat it like any other paid loot box. Our responsible gaming page has practical limits if you open them.

Should you buy music kits on Steam or a cash market?

It depends on which money you have.

  • Buying: cash markets were cheaper for nearly every kit. Across all music kits listed on both, Steam's lowest listing was a median 1.37 times the cheapest cash listing. For Killer Mike, MICHAEL, that is $17.06 on Steam against $13.15.
  • Steam Wallet money: if your money is already in your Steam Wallet, Steam is where you can spend it.
  • Selling: a Steam sale pays out Steam Wallet funds, after a 5% Steam fee and a 10% game fee per the Community Market FAQ. The Steam fee calculator shows what you keep at any price, and the trade profit calculator handles other venues.

Music kits are cosmetic and cheap, so for most players the best kit is the one you enjoy hearing every round. Pick by sound, buy on the market, and skip the box unless you enjoy the draw.
