How much do CS2 agents cost?
Agents are mid-priced cosmetics. In our 2 October 2026 snapshot, the 63 agents on the market had a median lowest cash listing of $13.29.

By price band, 28 agents cost under $10, 25 cost $10 to $30, and 10 cost $30 or more. T agents run a little higher than CT agents, mostly because of The Professionals, the heist crew from Broken Fang, who hold five of the ten most expensive spots.
Every agent had at least 274 cash listings, so any of them is easy to buy at a fair price. To value the agents you already own, paste them into the inventory value checker.

For comparison, the most expensive CS2 skins run to thousands of dollars. Even the priciest agent cost less than an AK-47 | Redline in Minimal Wear, which was $121.09 on the same day.

All six are from Operation Shattered Web, the first agent operation. Each had over 1,000 cash listings, which is why they are cheap: plenty of supply for the demand.
What do the agent tiers mean, and do they set the price?
Agents come in four tiers, shown on their Steam Market listing: Distinguished, Exceptional, Superior and Master. Sir Bloody Miami Darryl, for example, is listed as a "Master Agent".
You might expect higher tiers to cost more. Only Master really does.

The most expensive agent of all, Primeiro Tenente, is the lowest tier. So is D Squadron Officer at $66.21. Both are CT agents from Operation Riptide. The cheapest Master agent, The Elite Mr. Muhlik | Elite Crew, cost only $8.64.
So when you shop for agents, ignore the tier and look at the price and the look. Tier tells you how rare the agent was as an operation reward. It does not tell you what people pay for it today.
Which operation did each agent come from?
Agents arrived with Operation Shattered Web in November 2019, which let players "bring your favorite character into battle with all-new equippable agents" for the first time. Two more operations added the rest.

The pattern is clear: the newer the operation, the higher the typical price. Broken Fang brought the redesigned SWAT team and five Professionals, per Valve's announcement. Riptide added agents as weekly mission rewards. Our operation glossary entry explains how operations worked.
How do you get agents in CS2?
Agents were rewards in those three operations. Players earned stars from missions and spent them on rewards, including agents. Today, to get a specific agent, you buy it on the Steam Market or a cash market, or trade for it.
You do not have to own one. Since Shattered Web, players who do not equip an agent play as the default Local Agent or Operator, the map-based characters. Those are free.
You equip one agent per side in your loadout. Agents are more than a model swap: they have their own voice lines (Valve added new ones for the Trapper agents in 2021), and the 2 October 2026 update made agents wear your equipped gloves in the photobooth and the buy menu. What are agent patches and what do they cost?
Patches are small badges you put on an agent. Valve introduced them in February 2020: patches "can now be applied to specific locations on each character model, and you can apply more than one for each agent".
Three facts to know before you buy:
- Three per agent. Each agent has three patch positions, and the positions differ by agent, per the Steam Community patch position guide.
- Removal destroys the patch. The item text on every patch says it "can be removed but not recovered" (Steam Market).
- Where they come from. The CS:GO Patch Pack, operation rewards in Broken Fang and Riptide, and team patch packs, which Valve sold for the first time at the 2021 Major.

Most patches are cheap: 18 cost under $1 and 55 more cost $1 to $5. The cheapest was Patch | Payback at $0.15. At the top, the four most expensive patches are all from the Operation Riptide Patch Collection: Bayonet Frog ($326.73, only 19 cash listings), Elder God ($71.14), Dead Men ($64.81) and Aquatic Offensive ($30.57).
Sealed patch packs are cheaper still. The CS:GO Patch Pack cost $1.21 and the Half-Life: Alyx Patch Pack $1.44. The three Stockholm 2021 team patch packs cost $2.50 to $4.21.
Patches are not the same item as pins. Pins are their own item type, with 45 priced in our snapshot from $1.71 to $41.94, and they do not go on agents.
Should you buy an agent on Steam or a cash market?
Cash markets were cheaper for every agent in our tables. Across all 63, the Steam lowest listing was a median 1.46 times the cheapest cash listing. For Sir Bloody Miami Darryl, that is $101.69 on Steam against $68.24.
If your money is already in your Steam Wallet, Steam is the place you can spend it. If you sell an agent on Steam, you get Steam Wallet funds after a 5% Steam fee and a 10% game fee, per the Community Market FAQ. The Steam fee calculator shows what you would keep.
What does a budget or premium agent pair cost?
Most players want one agent for each side. Here is what that costs at both ends, on 2 October 2026.

Adding patches barely moves the budget pair. The three cheapest patches (Payback, Breakout and Bravo) cost about 47 cents together, enough to fill every patch position on one agent. At the other end, a single Bayonet Frog patch at $326.73 costs more than twice the premium pair. Once applied it cannot come back off in one piece, so it only makes sense on an agent you plan to keep.
Which agent should you buy?
- On a small budget: the Shattered Web agents start around $4 to $6, and every one of them has plenty of listings.
- For a specific look: pick by model, not tier. A Distinguished agent can cost more than a Master one.
- For patches: pick an agent whose patch positions show where you want them, and remember a removed patch is gone.
