Cheapest Covert (Red) Skins in CS2

Short answer

The cheapest Covert (red) skin in CS2 on 2 October 2026 was the AK-47 | Aphrodite (Battle-Scarred) at $8.93, but it is not from a case, so it has no knife pool. The cheapest Covert that can feed a knife trade-up was the AWP | Chrome Cannon (Battle-Scarred) at $21.63, from the Kilowatt Case.

What counts as a red skin in CS2?

In CS2, "red" means Covert, the rarity grade with the red label. It is the top grade for normal weapon skins. Only knives and gloves sit above it. Our Covert glossary entry covers the grade ladder in full.

Some people searching "cheap red skins" want skins that are red in colour. Those can be any rarity, and many cost cents. This guide is about the Covert grade, because that is what people price when they plan a knife trade-up. If you only want a red look on a budget, the budget skins tool lets you browse by weapon and price.

Covert prices matter more since 22 October 2025. Valve's release notes for that day added a new contract: five Covert items can be exchanged for one knife or one pair of gloves "from a collection of one of the items provided". Cheap Coverts became trade-up fuel, which is why people now hunt for the cheapest ones.

How did we pick the cheapest Covert skins?

Every price here comes from the CSRated price snapshot of 2 October 2026. It holds the lowest listing for each item on five cash markets (Skinport, Market.CSGO, Waxpeer, Lis-Skins and White.market) plus the Steam Community Market. Our methodology page explains how we collect them.

A single odd listing should never top a list, so we used the same agreement rule as our ranked lists. A price only counted when:

  1. At least 2 cash markets listed that exact item and wear.
  2. There were 3 or more listings in total.
  3. The lowest listing was not more than 3 times the Steam price or the 30-day sale median.

We only counted normal quality (not StatTrak or Souvenir) for the main list, and one row per skin, at its cheapest wear. All 107 Covert weapon finishes in our dataset passed the rule in at least one wear, so nothing was left out for lack of data.

Source: CSRated price snapshot, 2 October 2026. Steam prices are Steam Wallet money, not cash. The 30-day sale median is Skinport's completed sales.

Two things stand out. First, there is a gap: one Covert under $10, then nothing until about $17. Only 11 Covert skins had an agreed price under $25, and 22 under $30. Second, the Steam price was higher than the cash price for every row, by $3 to $15. That gap is normal, because Steam money can only be spent on Steam.

Which is the cheapest Covert in each wear?

Wear changes the price a lot, and it also decides the float of anything you trade up into. Here is the cheapest Covert in each wear, plus the cheapest from a case when the overall winner has no knife pool.

WearCheapest CovertPriceCheapest from a case with a knife or glove poolPrice

Battle-ScarredAK-47 | Aphrodite$8.93AWP | Chrome Cannon (Kilowatt Case)$21.63

The spread between wears is small at the bottom. The AWP | Chrome Cannon cost $21.63 in Battle-Scarred and $23.79 in Field-Tested. For about $2 more per skin you get a much cleaner float, which matters if you plan to trade up. Factory New is where prices jump: the cheapest Factory New Covert cost about twice the cheapest Battle-Scarred one from a case.

Which cheap Coverts can go into a knife trade-up?

Valve's rule says the knife or gloves come "from a collection of one of the items provided". So a Covert only helps if its collection has a knife or glove pool. In our dataset, 79 of the 107 Covert finishes come from case collections with such a pool.

The ones that do not:

  • Limited Edition items. The AK-47 | Aphrodite is the cheapest red skin overall, but its collection has no knives or gloves. Our trade-up calculator does not accept it for a knife contract.
  • Map and other non-case collections. Coverts from collections such as Cobblestone or Overpass 2024 are not tied to a case with knives or gloves, so the calculator turns them away for a Covert contract too.
  • Terminal collections (Genesis, Dead Hand). These Coverts are priced in our snapshot, but our case data does not include the terminals' rare item pools yet. If you want to use one, add it to the contract in game and read the outcome list before you confirm.

Glove cases are a different bet. Seven cases in our data have a rare pool of gloves only: Revolution, Recoil, Snakebite, Clutch, Operation Broken Fang, Operation Hydra and the Glove Case. Five normal Coverts from these give gloves, not a knife. Several of the cheapest Coverts in the table come from these cases, so check the pool column before you buy.

For costed recipes, with the average value of each knife pool, see cheapest knife trade-ups in CS2.

What are the cheapest StatTrak Covert skins?

Five StatTrak Coverts give one StatTrak knife, per the same release notes. StatTrak never gives gloves, so StatTrak Coverts from the seven glove-only cases cannot make anything in a Covert contract, even though they are cheap.

The two cheapest StatTrak Coverts in our snapshot were both from glove-only cases. That is a trap for anyone sorting by price alone. The cheapest StatTrak Covert that can actually make a knife was the StatTrak AWP | Chrome Cannon at $25.00.

How have cheap Covert prices moved this week?

We compared the 25 cheapest Coverts between 24 September and 2 October 2026, using our daily price history. The median change was a fall of 3.4%. 19 of the 25 moved by less than 7% either way.

A few moved more:

  • FAMAS | Bad Trip (Well-Worn): down 22.8%, to $30.72.
  • MP7 | Bloodsport (Field-Tested): down 17.7%, to $23.68.
  • M4A4 | Full Throttle (Battle-Scarred): down 16.7%, to $17.26.
  • M4A4 | Neo-Noir (Battle-Scarred): up 19.1%, to $24.21.
  • AK-47 | Inheritance (Battle-Scarred): up 10.3%, to $25.38.

Nine days is a short window, so read this as "prices were roughly flat to slightly down", not as a trend. A large one-week move on a cheap Covert often comes from a single market's lowest listing changing. Each skin page shows the daily history, so check it before you buy a set.

How do you buy cheap Covert skins without overpaying?

  1. Compare every market for the exact wear. The lowest listing is often on one market only. The AWP | Chrome Cannon (Battle-Scarred) was $21.63 on Skinport, but $23.84 to $26.62 on the other four cash markets. Each skin page lists all six prices.
  2. Remember the lowest listing is one item. If you need five copies for a trade-up, the second to fifth usually cost more. Budget for the next few listings, not the first.
  3. Check the float before you pay. Two Battle-Scarred copies can sit at 0.46 and 0.99. If you plan a trade-up, that difference carries into the result. The float checker reads it from an inspect link.
  4. Treat Steam prices as wallet money. Steam's Community Market FAQ lists a 5% Steam fee and a 10% Counter-Strike 2 fee, and the money stays on Steam. That is part of why Steam prices sit above the cash markets.
  5. Plan around trade protection. Steam's Trade Protected Items page says items you receive in a trade cannot be consumed for 7 days. A Covert bought by trade cannot go into a contract during that week.

To check two Coverts side by side, use the compare skins tool.

Common mistakes when buying cheap reds

  • Buying the cheapest red with no pool. The cheapest Covert overall cannot make a knife. Check the collection first.
  • Mixing StatTrak and normal. A contract must be all StatTrak or all normal, per Steam Support. Buy the right set.
  • Buying StatTrak Coverts from glove cases for a knife. StatTrak contracts only give knives, so these inputs have nothing to give.
  • Judging a skin by its Steam price. Steam prices are wallet money and run well above cash markets. Compare like with like.
  • Expecting a profit from five cheap reds. A cheap Covert set is cheap because the knives it can make are mostly cheap too. Our knife trade-up recipes show the average result for each case, and how to calculate trade-up EV shows the method.

If you are buying reds only to use them, the cheapest one you like is the right answer. If you are buying them to trade up, the right answer is the cheapest one from a case whose pool you actually want, in a wear that gives the float you need. The full rules are in how trade-up contracts work.

Frequently asked questions

Is Covert the same as red in CS2?

Yes. Covert is the rarity grade with the red label, the highest grade for normal weapon skins. Traders call these skins reds. A skin that only looks red, such as a red paint job on a Mil-Spec, is a different thing and is usually far cheaper.

Why do people look for the cheapest Covert skins?

Because five of them can now become a knife or gloves. Valve added that to the Trade Up Contract on 22 October 2025, which gave cheap Coverts a second use as trade-up inputs.

Can I trade up any Covert skin into a knife?

Only Coverts from a collection that has knives or gloves, which in practice means case collections. Our trade-up calculator turns away Coverts from map collections and Limited Edition items for a knife contract, because those collections have no knife or glove pool.

Does a cheaper wear make a worse knife?

Usually, yes. The knife's float comes from the average of your five inputs, so five Battle-Scarred Coverts mostly give a Battle-Scarred or Well-Worn knife. Fade and Doppler style finishes are the exception, because their float range is so narrow.

How often do these prices update?

Our price snapshot refreshes every day. The figures in this guide are frozen at 2 October 2026; each skin page shows today's prices on every tracked market.
